Kitesurfing popularity has exploded in recent years and the equipment is now widely available and more sophisticated than ever.
It’s humble beginnings started in the 1980‘s with an American gentleman, Cory Roeseler from Oregon developing his “Kiteski” system. After many years, and many testing incidents and bruises the sport has taken on a whole new dimension with different styles of kites, riding styles and boards.
Organizations have popped up around the world that now hold well-organized events such as the: Kiteboard Pro World Tour (KPWT) and the Professional Kiteboard Riders Association (PKRA) which host the Kiteboarding World Tour.
With the natural progression of wind powered sports, kite surfing was born for the water. With traits of water skiing and wake boarding a rider now with the harnessed power of the wind is able to travel up wind, down wind and jump. However in recent years the sport has taken on various diverse playgrounds including the snow (Snow Kiting) and also hard land (Land Boarding).
This sport although young has taken on a life of it’s own with magazines, television, internet and other media outlets helping to promote it as the fastest growing water sport in the world.
The array of many kites out on the water, jumping, wave riding or in the lakes it is time for you to take the challenge and try a new sport with so much diversity.
